"Harry Enfield was using The Pretenders' 'Kid' on the soundtrack for the rough cut of [Kevin & Perry Go Large]. Someone slipped him a copy of our album and he started raving about it, so we were asked to do a new version of the song ... we went to meet [Chrissie Hynde] with the backing track and Harry turned up as well. They both loved it and she went in to do the vocals straight afterwards." (source)

Mike Truman: "Great idea, shame it was a single, completely out of our hands that one. We got paraded round the TV stations thanks to [Chrissie] Hynde and the emphasis was all wrong. We felt a bit like a novelty act tagged on to her. Having said that, we did get to prance about like muppets on Top Of The Pops. All good fun but not my favourite production." (source)
